Baseball released its 2017 schedule on Wednesday.Quick things to know: Opening day is April 2, with two games, and everyone else plays the next day; Core interleague matchups: AL East vs. NL Central, AL Central vs. NL West and AL West vs. NL East; final regular-season games are October 1 (which means the World Series could end before November starts). The day-by-day schedule is here. Now, on to 10 things you need to know about Chicago Cubs White Jerseys the 2017 slate.MORE: The 12 ugliest September collapses of all timeBest opening pitching matchup: Jose Fernandez (Marlins) vs. Max Scherzer (Nationals). Well set the over/under at 21 strikeouts by the starters in this showdown between two of the nastiest pitchers in the sport.Best opening series: Cubs at Cardinals. This has long one of MLBs most intense rivalries especially for the fans and both teams are actually really good, which has been a bit of a rarity over the past hundred-something seasons. Its the first of 18 contests between the two teams in 2017; heres hoping there isnt much separation between them in the standings all season.Worst opening series: Phillies at Reds. Blah. Neither franchise will contend in 2017. But, hey, optimism still will abound on opening day, and theyre both at least trending in the Addison Russell Jersey right direction. And, admittedly, its always cool to see an opener in Cincinnati.Worst home opener: Padres at Braves, April 14. Seriously, the way the Braves went about getting their new stadium in suburban Atlanta is kind of slimy and disgusting (the Cobb County politicians deserve most of the criticism). Dont celebrate the first game in SunTrust Stadium, and good luck fighting traffic if you go in person.Best day: Jackie Robinson Day, April 15. All the players wear No. 42 for the day. Its just an awesome, wonderful Javier Baez Cool Base White Jersey reminder of a player who changed the sport forever.Best throwback event: As at Rays doubleheader, June 10. Its an actual single-admi sion scheduled double-header, the first since 2011. The single admi sion part means the ballpark wont be cleared out between games, and one ticket promises 18 innings of baseball, not just nine. These used to happen all the time (decades ago), so its pretty darn cool to see this on the schedule (both teams are off on June 12, btw, to make up for the doubleheader).Best interleague individual matchup: Mike Trout (Angels) vs. Bryce Harper (Nationals), Aug. 15-16. Weve debated these two guys for years now, and theyll square off (if theyre healthy) for a couple days in DC next summer. Good times.Best homecoming: Cubs at Rays, Sept. 19-20. Yep, its a manager homecoming. Longtime Angels coach Joe Maddon finally got his chance to manage in the big leagues when he took over a Tampa Bay franchise that had known nothing but extensive losing. Obviously, that changed quickly. Rays fans might not have been happy with the way he left town after the Anthony Rizzo Cool Base White Jersey 2014 season, but hell certainly get a hearty cheer when he makes his first official trip back to The Trop.Worst season-ending series: As at Rangers. The As probably wont be very good next year. The Rangers probably will be very, Jake Arrieta Jersey very good. Best we can hope for out of this one is Oakland playing the spoiler or Cole Hamels throwing a no-hitter against a youthful As lineup. Actually, either of those things would be pretty entertaining. Baseballs the best.Best season-ending series: Blue Jays at Yankees. The last weekend of has the potential to feature lots of teams in playoff contention facing teams not in contention (Reds-Cubs, Brewers-Cardinals, etc). But both of these two AL squads should be directly in competition for playoff berths/positioning, and theres little love lost between the two teams. The Astros-Red Sox series should be pretty good, too, but well give the Jays-Yanks the nod because division rivalries are the best.
